Kerryon Johnson injury update

UPDATE: Johnson has been placed on IR and will be out until at least Week 16.

Johnson exited the Lions’ game in the first quarter with a knee injury. He returned to the sideline later and rode the stationary bike for a few minutes before spending the rest of the game on the sideline in a knee brace. Ty Johnson replaced Kerryon on early downs ahead of J.D. McKissic.

Ty Johnson didn’t show off any efficiency in his playing time, rushing 10 times for 29 yards and catching four passes for 28 yards. He’s known as a speedy, explosive player. The rookie from Maryland is a top waiver wire pickup with Kerryon’s Week 8 availability to play the Giants (who just were gashed by Chase Edmonds) in doubt.

David Johnson injury update

This was a weird situation. Johnson (ankle, back) practiced last week in some capacity, was active Sunday, got the Cardinals’ first carry and then wasn’t heard from again as Edmonds ran for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Kliff Kingsbury told reporters Sunday that that usage was by design.

Fantasy owners of Johnson were not happy after Arizona apparently used him as a decoy – albeit a decoy who got the first carry. We’re confused, too. But with Johnson obviously not fully healthy, Edmonds should be snatched up on every waiver wire. We have no idea how much, if at all, Johnson will play in Week 9.

Matt Breida injury news

Breida missed some of Sunday’s second half while being evaluated for a concussion. He returned to the game, though, suggesting he was cleared and should be good to go for Week 8 against the Panthers.

Tevin Coleman had 20 carries Sunday to Breida’s eight, a split wide enough to show it would’ve been a Coleman edge even if Breida hadn’t been hurt. He remains in FLEX consideration for Week 8.
